Why would you want to slipstream (integrate) Sp1 with Vista?
If you ever have to re-install windows you will spend a long time downloading and installing all the updates so why install all the older files only to update them? This may take an hour or so to do but will save many hours later.
So just how difficult is it? The answer is its not! It is very easy to do.
What do you need to make a bootable slipstreamed DVD?
Your Vista DVD
Vista SP1 – download it from the
MS site.
vLite – a little app to do all the hard work.
A blank DVD disk
A few gig of space on your hard drive.
Here we go!
Install vLite
On your ‘C’ drive create two folders, one called ‘Vista’ and one called ‘SP1’ (you can call them what you want but Vista and SP1 makes sense).
Download SP1 to your SP1 folder.
Insert your Vista DVD disk and start vLite.
Browse for the folder that contains your Vista files (your DVD Drive letter) and copy all the files to the folder ‘Vista’.
Once all the Vista files are copied to the folder, specify which version of Vista that you want to slipstream.
This step is necessary because the installers for all Vista Editions are on your DVD.
On the next screen, select the following tasks ‘
Service Pack Slipstream’ and ‘
Bootable ISO’ then click next and select the location of the SP1 installer file (SP1 folder).
vLite can take 60-90 minutes for integrating all the SP1 files into the Vista Installer so be patient.
Once this process is complete, switch to ‘
Direct Burn’, put a blank DVD into your burner and Burn.
Your Vista SP1 Bootable DVD will be ready in few minutes. Don’t forget to write down your activation code and put the now bootable Vista SP1 disk in a safe place.
You can now delete the two folders you created.
That’s it!
