Unhappy Power shutting Down

undefined

My computer locked up and I had to shut down manually. Decided to wipe C drive and reformat. Now, as soon as I try to start over the computer keeps shutting down. I can go into the motherboard, so I dont think the motherboard is gone, but as soon as I try to go to a harddrive, the computer shuts down completely. Any suggestions??? I have built and repaired my own puters for years, but this is driving me crazy. Please help!!!
thanks and if you need to email me, please do. Nytejagldy@aol.com

Have you actually loaded an operating system?
Check your CPU fan.
If it only powers down when you attempt to access the hard drive, have you got a spare hard drive you can try?
Have you checked the battery?

There is so many things to check, I am struggling to get a starting point. Can you tell us what you have checked so we can narrow it down a little.

Angry Power shutting down

yes, have tried replacing with another harddrive, same thing, when you access the harddrive, shuts down. Fan is ok. When you go into motherboard, everything seems to be working ok and up to par.

Problem is we cant run a virus scan on the 2nd harddrive cause it keeps shutting down. the c drive has been wiped, but the other drive has not yet.

Have replaced IDE cables and have tried different variations of attaching each one. Same thing, powers down when accessing harddrive via startup disk or cd rom.

Have also tried unplugging everthing but one harddrive to conserve power and still shuts down when accessing harddrive.

It wont stay on long enough to try and wipe it or anything. Powers down after about 30 sec.

Have a look at the PSU (Power Supply Unit) maybe the fault is there. I was going to say check the motherboard, but you have stated that it is fine. I could not find the answer at home scratching my head, so I have spent 6 hours on searching and researching your fault over the net. The best I could find is the PSU.

Power supply seems to be ok. I am going to try today to dump the CMos and see if that works. If not, will purchase a new Power supply. Thanks for your help.

Thanks
