Red face Sound In Windows 98

Hi, all!!!
I have a HUGE problem here. As as matter of fact, I am in double trouble! Here is my sad saga: this client of mine, an old guy who does not know a bit about computers has an old computer (5 years or so) that had not had any maintenance whatsoever for five years! Scandisk and Defrag are bad words in that house! OK, I have decided for a clean reinstallation, which I did! The problem is that I cannot find a way of bringing back the sounds to his computer! In Control Panel I can see that there is a PCI Multimedia Device with a question mark. I have gone through all his disks and could not find the solution! Unfortunately, I have never used Windows 98! I am used to 95, ME and XP, which means that I am in darkness here. Any suggestions? I would enormously appreciate if they came before saturday morning when I will be back to his place.
Tks in advance and greetings from the Algarve, Portugal.

Maria

Have you tried making sure his sound card is in the slot properly? This doesn't just go for computers, but I find all too often the problem with something is that it isn't connected properly! Scart leads, TV aerials, old style games console cartridges... all have the same problem!

I've used Windows 98 before, but I'm afraid I can't offer you any help on it as I haven't used it in years! Good luck, hope someone can help you!

Alan will become famous soon enough
As Dave says, check that the card is slotted in properly then install the drivers.

You can download the soundcard drivers here. If you dont know who the sound card manufactorer is, just go to the P.C. manufactorer,s site and either look up the machines specs or email them with the serial number of the machine and they will tell you. But you should be able to see it in Device Manager.
