| Drives do not "see" DVD's. Recently this problem has started, drives "see" CD's fine, and burn, using Nero 7. But DVD's cannot be read, or burnt.
Have uninstalled drivers, in device manager, and re installed Nero, but still nothing.
window doesn't appear either, when drive inserting new disc either???
Any advice greatly appreciated.

| OK, just a stupid question but have you bought the right type of DVD? are they DVD+R or -R?
In device manager, is there a yellow exclaimation mark through the CD/DVD device? | Help us to help you!

| Hi Alan.
DVD's used were -R's, mainly.
No exclamation marks in listings, under device manager.
DVD's did work before, and burnt, using Nero fine. But now nothing.

| I would update the drivers first and formost, you can get then from the manufacturers sites. The Asus CD-S520/A is quite old, I think the drivers date back to 2002! What is your computer model and operating system? | Help us to help you!

| That didn't go as well as i had hoped.
I down loaded SP3.
Installed.
Spybot search and destroy came up with a window , said there was two files, "Do you accept?".
I clicked "Accept".
Nothing happened, except same window appeared, in bottom right of screen.
Left it a while, came back, nothing had changed, windows still there.
Clicked Info', everything crashed.
Tried to restart PC, but after the Windows blue screen shows, it crashes again.
So my friend has lent me his PC, for now.
Any advice please? | | |

| Re installed Windows...thats cured the boot up problem.
Although, "Windows installer" doesn't seem to be correctly installed.....
and, the previous copy of Windows might still be there....as,Local disk "C" , is showing approx 20 G's of free space, out of 74.7.
Any advice on these two issues please?

| Hello ukray,
Are your old files and folders still accessible "C:\Documents and Settings\"ukrays old username"\My Documents? If so, you now have a chance to back them up, along with any of your files stored at other locations on the hard drive.

| Hi miclac.
Yes, found them!
Was thankful they were still there, as theres some holiday pics i wanted to keep, plus some old Army ones.
New issue i have just found, is i cannot open Windows firewall, says, @Windows firewall cannot be displayed as the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the windows/ firewall internet sharing service?"
I click yes, and it says, "Windows cannot start windows/ firewall internet sharing service"
How do i resolve this also please?
