Angry Programs closing on me!

Early morning everyone. Here is what's happening: My programs are closing on me and I've tried everything. They seem to shut down when I try to open a file, browse my computer for a file or type. So far, I've tried rebooting, the WinsockXPFix utility, scanning for viruses (which I did initially), a Fix-It utility, removed spyware with SpyBot and I also spent an hour in a help chat that didn't amount to anything. I also did Windows Updates. I did a system restore to a checkpoint (that being 3/14/04) about 2 weeks ago because I was having unfixable problems with my internet provider. I don't know what else to do, it's driving me nuts.

It all seemed to start after I downloaded a Live Desktop Cam "program". I, then, scanned it for a virus (came up not infected) and deleted it. I didn't uninstall it because it was never listed under Add/Remove programs. Deleting it removed it from the computer. It was a zip file that I unzipped to my desktop. It came from a trusted source's webpage. Any tips on what I should do or what is going on? I'm lost.

System: Windows XP, bought in January 2002, manufactured in 2001, Compaq Presario Series 5000, 40% free disk space, Norton AntiVirus, worked with little to no errors for the last 2 years.

Thank you,
Kelly

Alan will become famous soon enough
Just deleting the program will cause registry errors and corruption. I suggest that you first re-install the program, then try to browse your files. (I know it sounds silly) if it works un-install the unwanted program using something like 'Your UnInstaller'. If it dos'nt, put your Windows disc into the Cd drive and select Windows Repair. Hopefully one of them two methods will help you out. Let us know how you get on with it.

Alan

EDIT: You can download 'Your UnInstaller' here : http://downloads.wugnet.com/affilia...004-tweakxp.exe
It will remove the program much more safely.
