Loading XP

Hi,
I have just purchased an XP Professional disk and would like to load it to my computer myself. I am a complete beginer (but we all have to start somewhere). My sistem has a Gigabite 2004 RZ motherboard with an AMD 2.6 proceser running windows 98 se. the new disk says it will perform a clean install.
Do I have to remove 98 before i install XP iff so please help.
Any other info would be helpfull, remember plain english please.
Many thanks Steve (birdie4x4)

It can install over win98, but if it possible its always better to wipe your HDD and install from scratch. I personally have had un-needed conflicts from over-writing one operating system to another.

Help us to help you!
Be specific with your problem and tell us your machines specs.

Sorry Steve, just re-read your post and "the new disk says it will perform a clean install" means that it will delete Win98 before installing. Go ahead and allow it to delete your OS, then install.
Again, sorry for not reading your post properly.

Thanks Alan,
XP loaded successfully, first menu gave option to delete old operating system before new install. Only problem XP did not recognise internet modem,as I had no driver and I could not download one, the easiest way for me was to fit a new modem with driver.(not very expensive and saved time)
