Startup errors I have a very old Compaq Presario that I want to give away. It's worked fine for the past 6 or so years that it's been used. To prepare it for its new owner I deleted a bunch of personal files and uninstalled some programs. I never touched the system files, though. I scanned the disk for errors (none were found) and defragmented the harddrive, and shut it down. However, when I turned it back on to double check that everthing's in order, I got a black, DOS-like screen telling me:
ERROR
Resource Conflict - PCI in slot 02
Bus:00, Device:12, Function:00
It gives me the options to press F1 to Resume or F10 to Setup. When I press F1, the screen sometimes simply goes black and nothing starts up. Sometimes, it'll just show a blinking cursor on the upper left corner of the screen and everything else black with nothing going on, no matter how long I wait. One time my friend hit F1 and it actually managed to startup...but that's a mystery to me because it's right back to that stubborn black screen. When it did start that time, it asked about installing drivers for some hardware, which I did...
I tried Setup, but it doesn't fix anything. Especially, it doesn't allow for changing the PCI Configurations....
I've been looking up the problem online, but I really don't turn up anything, except for some advanced hardware solutions that I don't understand (pulling out the cards from this and that slot). I don't think it should be a hardware problem because this has never happened before and I didn't connect any new hardware nor did I switch around any devices and it's all been working fine for the past 6 years...
The OS is Windows 98. Can anyone help me?! I really want to get rid of this thing, it's just taking up space in my study...
Also, does anyone know where I can find the boot disk for this specific computer (Compaq Presario 2266 Desktop PC)?
Thanks in advance! |
