partition magic does not work on my machine as i need a service pack to run it on win98 also it installs to drive D: which is the missing drive so it will not install any other ideas because i am convinced i have a 40gb hard drive now as the other programmes that you have told my to use find 37.29gb although the programmes dont do much else.

You should be able to install Partition Magic to any drive you wish. If I remember right, it is Boot Magic that wants to install on a drive other than the main operating system. As for the service packs, just go to the windows update page and download them.
