Lightbulb missing drives

i recently rebooted my pc cause of technical difficulties due to this the pc has deleted a harddisc drive. i have one harddisc which was split into two drives a C: and a D: the D: drive held all of my data and has now went missing along with over 2gb if somenone could help out it would be appreciated

Boot up the machine using a floppy startup disc, try reading the hard disk by changing the drives, if that does not work, use FDISK or FIPS utility to view the partitions in your hard drive.
If you partitions still exist, you are in luck, all your data is NOT lost.

If you are unable to do this, run partition magic (if you have it) and that will identify what you do and dont have.
