Lightbulb Windows 98 VS M.E.

I have always wanted to upgrade to M.E., I have had it in the past on a different system and it seemed to have many problems, but alot of my friends have been using it for years without a problem. Is it a good upgrade? The computer tech in my city says I should keep 98. I would like to see others opinions on M.E. Also if I do decide to switch, can I install over top 98 without losing any current data and drivers?

You can upgrade win98 to ME without loss of set preferences and data but it is a lot slower than 98, or at least it was when I used it. The difference it makes to your system, apart from speed, is minimal. Stick with 98 or trade up, depending on your hardware, to xp, it is much more reliable and secure.

Alan, is WindowsXP better than 98 regarding stability and other problems? I have a P3 750, changed proccesor from 450. GenuineIntell X86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 6 is what I have. 256ram, 30gig hard drive. Would XP work on this system without reinstalling everthing again? Like installing over 98?

In my opinion, XP is very stable now, 98 was very fast and 98se was quite stable but xp home edition is the best so far. Next year Longhorn is going to be released, which according to sources, will be the super sonic. If you are going for an upgrade, xp is the choice I would make right now. As I said, I used ME for a while, but to me it was buggy and slow. Other people think it was/is ok, we all have our opinions.
There should'nt be any loss of data with a upgrade to XP.
