Memory Stick Driver for Windows 98

Hi

I have just bought a Blue Pearl USB 2.0 Memory Stick to help me transfer files between my Windows 98 desktop and my new XP laptop.

In the shop, they said it was SO easy to use - "just plug it into the USB and it will be recognised automatically".

Well, it does just that on the XP - works fine, but not on the 98 desktop. I plug it into the USB and it asks for a driver to be installed. Of course, there was no driver with the stick so I am a bit stuck. Can't go back to the shop until monday and I really wanted to transfer those files asap.

I have tried Google to see if I can find something but no luck. Does anyone have an idea of where I might be able to download a suitable driver?

Thanks very much

Stuart

Check the USB on the Win98 machine to make sure it is USB 2.0 and not 1.1

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure how to check which USB I have got - any ideas where I can see this?

The software company is still considering USB 2.0 support for Windows ME, but it already has decided not to bring USB 2.0 to Windows 98 and Windows 98 SE. If you have Windows 98, you will have to rely on 3rd party USB 2.0 support from USB card manufacturer.
Read all about USB here.

Why not just burn the files to CD-R?

Thanks again for the useful tips - you certainly do live up to your nickname, don't you?

I think you are right - it probably will be easier for now to write the files to a CD.

Best wishes

I went back to the shop and they were able to locate the drivers on a german website. The problem was that all the instructions were in German as well, so I had a couple of interesting hours trying to translate everything before I could try.

I used the online translator at Reverso, which I can highly recommend: http://www.reverso.net/text_translation.asp

Anyway, I eventually managed to sort things out and, after the third reboot, it magically picked up the driver. Since then, everything has been just fine and dandy.
