error 1003

my pc was built by an aquaintance of mine who can no longer be contacted, the pc is two years old & has xp pro.
soon after i got the pc it suffered from sudden crashes, sometimes upon recovery i would get the blue screen & at other times no blue screen, it was as if it was booting up as normal.
i have reformatted the C drive several times but this does not seem to cure anything. i have now discoverd how to view the Event Viewer & System Log.
This is what i am seeing

can anyone explain how ( in simple english ) what this is, what can /should i do to correct or erradicate this fault.
thanks for any assistance given
ray.

erroer 1003

when the pc crashes sometimes it boots back ok as if it has been told to do a restart, but on other occaisions the blue screen that come up is
" checking file system on C"
" file system is FAT 32"
"disc checking windows will now check the disc"
"volume serial No 2B2C-12F8"
the it proceeds with the disc check.
there is no error number or message that comes up, the only error no is the one i mentioned in my first post
hope this helps.
thanks
ray.

error 1003

ha now i understand , you mean the error signature
it is BCCode : 1000008e BCO1 : 0000005 BCP2 : BF810BE
BCP3 : F7E6DA24 BCP4 :00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0
Product : 256_1

could the cause of the crashes be loose connections or a faulty component?
