Possibly WMI problem

I have encountered a problem, which is related to the WMI. Lately I have noticed two strange messages, both when trying to view certain information. These are the messages:

Windows System Information message.

Can't Collect Information
Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing.

Network Information. (Right-click on the network / Properties / Advanced)

Windows cannot display the properties of this connection. The Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) might be corrupted. To correct this, use System Restore to restore Windows to an earlier time (called a restore point). System Restore is located in the System Tools folder in accessories.

These are the two strange WMI messages. I have tried to restore Windows, but it's not letting me. I am getting an error that Windows cannot restore the system to an earlier time (or somethin similar), after reboot. What else can I try?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I think this is stopping Windows/Office Updates to check my system for any updates.
