Unable to load Windows Media Player(s) 9 or 10

My OS is XP Pro, and it automatically downloased WMP 10 a couple of days ago, but my system was responding sluggishly as well as playback was extremely distorted and fuzzy. I opted to uninstall (via system restore...1 minute before original download), and all seemed well until I tried to play media, both online (streaming) and via a cd. I have other media players (eg: real player and winamp), none are working.

I did some research and was advised to run Reg cleaner, reboot and reinstall WMP, which I did. But upon installation of WMP 9 and/or 10, I'm getting this error message: "This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows".

Upon further research, I have also gotten this error message: "DRM.Clien.Dll missing plugin".

I am now stymied because I don't know what else to do. Nothing seems to be working, and this has brought my productivity to nought.

Any help/advice that can be given will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Frustrated
