I explorer problem

I have a Compaq with Windows XP. I have installed service pack 2. Almost everytime I search the net the following message appears: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the incovenience". The error signature is AppName: iexplore.exe, AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180, ModName: msbcrt.dll, or shdocvw.dll, or it says unknown. ModVer: 7.0.2600.2180, or 6.0.2900.2518 or it just has a bunch of zeros Offse: 00030ac4. or 0006b9e3 Please help me.
