Unhappy computer freezes

hello over there,
i've got this problem, can please someone help me out, i'm dead without my
pc...

I own a hp pavilion laptop, Athlon processor, and i've just recovered my
system reinstalling windows xp with the System Recovery CD. Now, after some
stand-by, my computer freezes and won't open again if rebooted. (I get the
Windows logo, with the blue charging bar status). In recovery mode, I've
tried to set off the screen saver and the standby options, but nothing
changes. I've tried to Recovery the Windows again but i get the same result.
Maybe this could help you out: In the Microsoft Management Console, I get a
message telling me the devmgmt.msc file does not exist.

What should i do? Help me if you can, please.
Thank you very much,
Alan

Put your XP disk in the cdrom drive and click on Start / Run type cmd,
at prompt type sfc /scannow

That will fix any corrupted system files and rule out that element.
Post back the results so we know what the next move should be.

Unhide your hidden system files and try again.
To unhide all the hidden files on your system, follow these steps:
From the Control Panel, click the Folder Options icon.
When the Folder Options dialog box appears, select the View tab.
Open the Hidden Files and Folders item and check the Show Hidden Files and Folders option.
Click OK.
