Internet Explorer does not detect my dsl connection anymore for some reason. I was surfing earlier when the thing started giving me the following error:

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.

Scan for spyware, its the first place to start. Use AdAware and Spybot S&D.
If they turn up nothing then run HighJack This and post the log file here so we can take a look.

the following error message comes up about 10 seconds into scanning with ad aware:

What is causing this?

EDIT: This only comes up on smart scan and full system scan. Maybe it's a bug with the program.

Thanks

I THINK it's a bug with Windows not the Program. I have a patch regarding that (if it is the bug I'm talking about)... I suppose you run Windows XP SP2?

It is a virus! What antivurus protection have you? You need to update the definitions and run a scan. Both the sasser and blaster worm give this error.

yes, i'm running Service Pack 2. I have Norton Antivirus 2003; I haven't renewed my subscribtion since 2/4/04, so I don't have any of the latest definitions.

Click on this link, it explains how to get rid of the blaster virus manually.
Post back with the results, or if it is another type of virus.

There is also a patch available from the Microsoft site, click here.

it does not appear that i have the blaster worm. it is not in the registry, it's not running in the processes tab of taskmanager, and the symantec W32.Blaster.Worm Fix Tool did not detect it. The patch from the MS site is for SP1; i have sp2. Any more suggestions?
