Used/Free Space Error

i recently had bought a 250GB drive (250,000,000,000 Bytes = 232GB neways but thats ok)
my problem is that when i view the drive properties (right-click -> properties) it says ive used 173GB and if i go in the drive and select everything and view properties, when it done counting everything it only says ive used 71GB (system + hidden visible, and i set ownership rights for the account im using to all files and folders/ all-full access, and i also ran scandisk/checkdisk at the startup thingy) neways i dont think theres 100GB hiding from me, and i know i couldnt get that much on there in 2 days, i copied files from my old drive not all of them but about 30GB, neways i just want to know why there is a 102GB difference in what it should be.. and it stays consistant if i add more or delete some, its like there is 102GB somewhere but its not, i also analysed the disk with the defragmenter, not sure how accurate but theres alot more white space than red/blue/green (im defragmenting now, but i dont know if it will help)

im open to any suggestions...

Are you on a broadband Internet connection like Cable or DSL? Is your computer up to date on all security patches? Have you scanned for viruses? How old and what are the specs of this computer?

You could try and reformat it, but they are likely bad because they were marked bad by the formatting process. I agree, just get it replaced.

Want a bigger drive? Hitachi recently released a 400GB model.

Ok i got the 'advanced replacement' thingy and got the drive and cloned it with norton ghost, and it copys the information about bad sectors, if i reformat it then all 250GB is working but otherwise it says there bad even though they not. is there a way to retest the bad sectors on an NTFS partition so there not marked as bad anymore, i know even a quick format will show that none are bad but obviosly that deletes everything (well for the most part - in case neone wants to get technical on me hehe)
