Red face I reformatted

I reciently re-formatted my computer with XP, and i am now having trouble with my speakers and monitor settings. My speakers cannot play sound, and when i go into the control pannel and the speaker section to fix the problem, everything including the pull down tabs are in gray. I cannot add an audio device, and it says that there is no device connected. I have all the right drivers and codecs, but the computer does not pick up the speakers. I even tried the Add hardware option, but it didnt pick anything up.

Now onto my monitor problem... I cant get the resolution higher than 640x480 and the color only goes up to 16 bits. If you can help me out, i would be in your debt(i probably shouldnt say that).

Thanks a bunch

Have installed the graphic card and sound card drivers?
If you tell us what the card types are, we can tell you where to get the latest drivers for them.

Help us to help you!
Be specific with your problem and tell us your machines specs.

Go to Control Panel / Performance and Maintenance / System / Hardware then click on the Add Hardware Wizard (I think its called) then you will see all your devices. scroll down to the graphics card (it will proberly have a yellow exclaimation mark next to it) and click on it. Do the same with your sound card. The screenshots below should give you some idea what I mean, then write then down and let us know.

The audio device that i found is called "SoundMAX Integrated Audio device" fo my "ADI 198x integrated audio driver"
and the video card i think is called "VgaSave".

i dont know if those are right, i might be looking at the wrong thing.

Your AGI198x drivers can be found at www.driversguide.com
the VGAsave is a windows service driver, try pressing F8 on boot and selecting 'Enable VGA Mode' that should load the driver. Failing that, tell us the make and model of your PC and we can try to locate the correct drivers from your motherboard's manufacturer.
