Question Folder Opening problem

I have Windows XP, recently installed.

When I try to open a folder by double left click it always opens a search results folder in another window. The only way I can open the folder I want is by right clicking then clicking on expand.

I've been to tools - folder options - general and made sure that "Open each folder in the same window" and "Double click to open an item" are both checked.

Please can anybody help me sort this out it's driving me crazy!

Alan will become famous soon enough
This should cure your problem, open up the registry (Start / Run / Regedit) and navigate to..

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ Directory\ shell

With "shell" highlighted, change the "default" data to "none" on the right-side.

then go here:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ Drive\ shell
With "shell" highlighted, change the "default" data to "none" on the right-side.

The folder icons should be back to normal again!

Be specific with your problem and tell us your machines specs.
