Totally Broke???

Hi there

My Sons computer seems to be dead! The operating system is Windows XP professional SP 2.

Okay the problem when you switch it on and the black screen with white writing comes on the computer makes and alarm sound and then in the right hand corner a gold medal appears?

It then gets as far as getting to the windows xp screen and three dots of the loading bar and stops.

I have tried inserting the disc so i can totally wipe the computer but it does nothing!

When i tried to start the machine in safe mode it fills the screen with lots of data then freezes. Does it mean this machine is totally broken?

When you say that you have tried to re-install from the disc but nothing, does it actually try to install?
Check the boot order in the BIOS. I dont know about your sons machine, but mine is Turn on and press the DEL key to enter the Bios setup. It usually says at the blue screen which key it is.
Set the boot order to CD/DVD first then the hard drive, save your changes and try again.

The "gold medal" in the right hand corner is confusing me.

So far so good, it has got as far as asking for serial number which i've inputted. It is now on 13 minutes and has been for a while but the little green boxes are still flashing as if it is still running, i don't think it has crashed but i will let you know. Fingers Crossed !
