Hi iv had a problem with my laptop that iv been trying to sort out for 2 weeks and is driving me insane. Its a year old and has been very well looked after. Basically my problem started when my boyfriend went to use my laptop and plugged my dongle into the back port rather than the side port that i usually used and installed it through. Ever since my laptop has failed to find a wireless internet connection. the other computer in the house works and the internet and modem is fine and also the dongle i used is enabled and working properly as i did all the troubleshooter checks.
When getting my laptop to check for the problem it stated that my COMS ports have been disabled or are not working properly and to go into device manager and enable it. I went into device manager and couldn't find anything until i clicked hidden devices and a little yellow exclamation mark appeared next to a plug and play application called serial which i assumed was to do with the COMS port. It was already enabled and so the troubleshoot advised me to uninstall the serial thing and then restart the computer and right click on it again and reinstall it. Ok , so i got as far as restarting the computer and my problem lies in the fact that since uninstalling the serial thing it now does not appear on device manager anywhere, despite clickin show hidden devices. I clicked on this search for hardware changes thing and got nothing despite being advised that something would. I even tried playing around with this add hardware thing in control panel and everything in that section was fine and no 'serial' was there.
I am totally confused on what has happened and this is my last resort on sorting out the problem as none of my tech savvy friends know what the problem is.
I'd be very grateful if you could explain how i can fix this problem
Thanks
