Lost files after PC recovery

I have a Presario C 300EU. I have just completed a PC recovery and descovered that I seem to have lost all or most of my photos and video. I have checked the memory and it appears that they are still in there somewhere as the computer seems quite full. I have use the search facility on windows. The only photos that I can find are the ones that where located in the shared folders. It has been a bit of a nightmare so far as the computer has returned to the state that it was in when first purchsed. I have had to re register, set up new internet connection and re establish Outlook express and obtain all the microsoft updateds. Is there any way to retrive these precious photos? Please help.
