Help, My Computer Won't Turn On

it's been down for 3 days now. it just won't turn on. a similar thing happened a while ago bacause i think it overheated. it had just shut off, and was off for a while. then it turned back on. before that, and now this. i've repeated tried pressing the on/off button in the front, and back of the pc. right now im just using my brother's laptop.

when i opened the side of the pc, it was really, really dusty. if i dismantle it and clean it, do you think it will solve my problem? can someone, please help me.

This could a very lengthy process! it could be one of many things. Check all your fuses and powerpack, including the plug fuse (if you have one).

If you are going to clean it out, only use a small soft natural brush.

I would use compressed air to clean the dust out.

I would check the ATX connector to the motherboard. If you have a voltage meter handy, see if you get 5 volts with the red probe going to the green wire and the black probe going to any of the black wires in the ATX connector. If you do get 5 volts, I would try shorting the power on pins for a millisecond (it is the plug where your power switch is connected to). Check the circuit breaker on the surge protector if you have one.

Otherwise, you may have a bum power supply.
