sticking with Windows XP

IN BUILDING A NEW COMPUTER I WOULD RATHER STAY WITH WINDOWS
XP PROFESSIONAL. VISTA may be ok, however when I am setting up a new computer I would rather work with a software program I am more familiar with rather than creat problems in the beginning. What do others think of this idea. Doc Ferguson

Hi

I intend buying Vista but not until its SP1 or maybe SP2 is released and then i would run it as a duel boot option with XP.

No, not even thinking of installing Vista, since XP is doing the job well, it does everything I need. So I don't think Vista is worth the hassle to set it up on another partition.

The only advantage I can see about Vista is DX10... although even this, it's not going to make too much difference for me.

Right now if you go into a big box store all machines will be loaded with Vista.
When asked if I could put Windows XP professional the only way they would do this was to actually purchase windows xp and service pack. Microsoft if making sure that Vista gets its start by using Vista as the primary operating system. So if you purchase a new computer the techs have to take a virgin
machine use the XP you purchased, charge you another fee and they still load up Vista. Again the way to beat that build your own and when Vista gets cleaned up then I will load it up. Vista is making many computers and especially laptops out of date as the memory is embedded in the graphics card of the mother board making it impossible to upgrade hardware because of imcompatibility. It would be foolish to try and monkey with a laptop to change mother boards because of propriety issues. Older desk tops again because of case design it may be impossible for you to properly install a new mother board and cpu just for graphics to operate Vista. Doc Ferguson

So far, I have had no problems at all with Vista. It a lot of ways it is very similar to XP. Although I think it is greatly overpriced, happy with the speed and performance.

Help us to help you!
Be specific with your problem and tell us your machines specs.

haha... sorry. I mean, when a SP is released I may find the time to install VISTA, but not as the primary OS. Well, maybe SP1 will make a whole lot of difference, then I may use it as my Primary OS... but for now I'm not going to touch Vista.

Sorry for confusing you

Vista

According to some people Vista is in its Beta mode. Much like windows XP
in the beginning the bugs started to rear its ugly head and then it seemed like there patch's each week. That is until service pack two came along. Doc Ferguson.

That was the line of my thinking Doc, wait until SP2 is released and buy then most of any bugs will be sorted

Waiting for the next service pack is a good idea... Actually that was also my idea when I was with windows 2000 pro migrating to xp hehehe...

It just the repetition of the past... Im still using my xp pro sp3.
