Question Slow windows networking

Hi.

I have wired/wireless network in my home. One machine is plugged right into my wireless router. I have 3 others that connect wirelessly. All are running XP Home. File sharing works among all the computers, but it seems that when I copy files from one specific computer, it takes much much longer than when I copy files from any of the ther computers. In fact, just browsing through a shared folder that is on that computer takes forever when I click on a folder, for example. And when I use that sluggish computer to access shared folders on other machines it is always painfully slow. The slow machine by the way is the one wired right to the router. All of the machines are of comparable power (processor, memory, HD, etc).

I recently was trying to attach a friend's computer to my network (wired), to copy some files to my other wired computer and I had some trouble, so I started mucking with the windows networking on my wired computer. I ran through some wizard a couple of times, and I think that's what screwed this machine up.

Any suggestions on how I can get this machine to network with all the others as nicely as it used to?

Thanks,

Jim

Hi JDaniels,
Try this:
Create a folder you want to have "Shared Documents" point to. It can be anywhere on your system. A suggestion would be: "My Network Folders" located on a separate drive dedicated for sharing if available.
Rename "Shared Documents" in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users to the name you want to appear in "My Computer" and "Other Places" It must be the same name as the Folder you created in Step 1.
Open regedit and navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
Edit the value of "Common Documents" to the path of the folder you created.
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
Edit the value of "Common Documents" to the path of the folder you created.
Reboot.
