Toshiba P25 has no display at all!! HELP

I recently aquired a p25-S509 in trade (From researching, I think thats what I have. Serial number is worn down from time so I cannot be sure). The computer boots up, at least I can hear it. There is nothing being displayed on the monitor, and I even tried running a cable from the back of the laptop to my desktop monitor, and I get nothing. I am farily knowledgable in electronics, are there certain circuits I can test before I start throwing parts at this? Basically, I got this computer for free and I would like to keep it as cheap as possible. Main purpose for this is for school work and tuning motors. Thanks!!!

BTW: I have been told that this sounds like a bad chippset. Is there a way to verify this? I would rather find the source of the problem before I throw it out, or I start buying parts for it and whatnot

no video on post either i assume.if it wont even work with an external monitor.id have to say the video chip has gone bad.no way to change that really it would have to have a new motherboard for it.only other thing i can think of.some laptops have a little push switch.that turns the display on,and off.they are normally on the caseing above the keyboard, and below the monitor.if it stuck it may be locked in the off position.if not it would have to be the boards graphics is dead.

If You Feel We Have Helped You,and You Would Like To DONATE That Would Be Appreciated

Alan will become famous soon enough
Here is a link for the user manual for that model.
It looks like the 'Fn' + 'F6' to cycle through the display options.

Be specific with your problem and tell us your machines specs.
