Which laptop batteries are sAfE???

In light of the announcement that Toshiba is recalling 10,000 Notebook batteries ( see story on Yahoo News at: Toshiba Recalls 10,000 Notebook PC Batteries - Yahoo! News ), I'm curious to know what type of Laptop battery is safe?

Have they come out with an improved battery that doesn't present danger of spontaneously catching fire?

Just curious if anyone had heard anything as I'm considering getting a laptop, although I'm in no big hurry (I'd like to research this first)

If anyone has any sugestions concerning which type of laptop battery is safe, please let me know.

actually most are the bad ones that toshiba recalled were made by sony.they had one bad cell which was prone to catastrophic failure.

I was reading somewhere (can't find it now) that one type of battery was more dangerous than another type. Back when I read that was the first round of recalls that involved Dell notebooks.

At the time I wasn't consideering getting and notebook, and like a dummy I figured I didn't care since it wouldn't effect me.

Now that I'm considering getting a notebook, I'm kinda interested in the safety issues. Maybe it was just a bad lot of cells.

yeah and most of those had sony made batteries as well.sony is a major maker of laptop batt's.just about all laptop makers have had recalls.hp had a recall about a year,and a half ago.its hard to say with absolute certainty which are safe,and which are not.at this point though being its a known problem.id say most newer models would be safe by now.
