Question 'bout secondary servers

I just ran into something about Secondary DNS services.

What exactly is that?

Is that where if my primary name server goes down, a secondary name server kicks in and resolves all my donmains to another server somewhere?

I've been thinking about getting setup with some kind of fail safe setup in case my primary name server goes down.

Would Secondary DNS services take care of that?
If so, anybody know where I can find a reliable, affordable secondary DNS service?

OK, thanks for the link...but that brings up a new question.

How can this company offer their services for free and stay in business? I know I cannot offer my services for free as I would eventually have to go out of business due to a lack of funds.

So, it's always a red flag to me when a company offers something free since nothing in this life is free. It usually means that there are other requirements or some sort of hidden fees involved that you don't find out about until later, after you sign up.

What is there deal that allows them to give their services away for free?

Never used them myself but the third question down under Public DNS Service answers it somewhat.

I understand the concept of wanting to help keep the internet free, but someone still has to pay for this somehow.

As a person that owns and operates a corporation, I've become acutely aware of what things cost and the value of services and resources it takes to successfully operate a business.

I've seen businesses go out of business because their business model included giving away too many free goods or services.

Whilst that may give one a nice warm and fuzzy feeling to be able to help someone, in the long run it is only temporary help if the business has to go away. I know one thing, I'm alot less cheap than I used to be. Now, I don't mind paying for a decent, needed service. In fact, I'd rather pay as then I'd be treating them the way I'd like to be treated.

Anyway, thanks again for the link...

Up and down the net there are reputable companies giving good solid free programs/products as an enticer to buy from them. They have not gone bankrupt!
Have a look in the review forum for a very small sample of free programs etc from major companies.

I guess that could work if they don't get too happy with the free stuff and they always have enough paying customers to make a profit and support their business.
