Orange Broadband - Difficulty sending e-mails

My provider keeps producing this:

"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'Richard', Server: 'smtp.freeserve.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F"

When it's in this mode I can't send e-mails, though I can receive them. Sometimes it cures itself, and sometimes I can fix it by turning off, disconnecting the computer, re-connecting and starting up again.

Please, has anybody any idea what I should do?

Any advice would be gratefully received. F'rinstance, what socket are they referring to?

Ar you using Webmail or a program such as Outlook to send/recieve emails?

If your using something like Outlook, try login into the web mail system provided by Orange and see'ing if you have any problems.

Check Server Settings

Server information:

* my incoming mail server is a: (POP3) server
- check that field contains POP3

* incoming mail (POP3):
- check that field contains pop.orangehome.co.uk and that it is entered in lower case

* outgoing mail (SMTP):
- check that field contains smtp.orangehome.co.uk and that it is entered in lower case

* account name:
- this field should be your Orange user name excluding the @fs. Ensure the user name is entered all in lower case.

* password:
- this field should be your Orange password. The password is case sensitive and must be entered correctly using CAPITALS and lowercase where appropriate.

Hope this helps!

A few months back Orange had a major issue with their email servers where some worked and some didnt, it caused chaos for their customers.

It may be a cause here where Orange will have to direct Outlook to a set server that they know is working. Even if its an individual case this time.

However getting the technical team to do this would be near impossible as "they dont support 3rd party applications"

This all goes on you using a 3rd party application such as Outlook to deal with your emails

Is freeserve.com the mailserver for your ISP or is it a third party mail server. Many ISP's have started to block outbound access to smtp servers that are not there own.
