identity theft

My friend had £2k stolen from his credit card and I don't want this to happen to me. He suggested using an online credit monitoring service. Does anyone know any websites where you can find information on how to protect your privacy online/offline?
Lots of information can be gleaned from Google, but no one website appears to provide the guidance I need....

personally i protect myself by not putting personal info out there.as far as offline just use a little common sense.i was at a bank drive through not long ago. this woman was loudly, and clearly shouting out a bank account number at the teller.also use atm's dont drop that receipt in that little trash can that sets there.thieves constantly check those pick up your receipt.now they got your acct number.another thing to do online say you shop online first off make sure its a legit place to shop.second be sure you comp is virus, and spyare free so your info isnt emailed to whoever via spyware.nowadays alot of folks ae useing prepaid credit/debit cards so only a limited ammount can be stolen.hope this may help identity theft is a major problem these days, and can truly happen to anyone.

If You Feel We Have Helped You,and You Would Like To DONATE That Would Be Appreciated

Thanks for your reply. I have searched online for a useful resource on protecting my privacy - to no avail. However I've only just this minute found a site that may provide the help I need...id-protect.co.uk - looks an interesting website. Need to signup and find out what it is all about.

Hi david01

I have never used an online credit monitoring service, i do use my credit card on line quite a lot and never had a problem, but i do use multi layer protection and you can protect your self free with a Firewall, Anti Virus and anti Spyware applications

Two Free Firewalls

Comodo

Two Free Anti Virus
AVG
Avira AntiVir

Free Anti Spyware / Scaners
Ad-Aware SE Personal
Spybot S&D
