Downloading Music?

I have heard from many people that downloading music for free can get you in legal troubles. How true is this? Any suggestions for downloading MP3's?

Downloaing music, programs and films from P"P sites is definatly illegal and many goverments around the world are starting to take a hard line on this.
If you want to know the quickest way to download a virus - its from a P2P site!
There are a few recognised sites (microsoft and Apple both have one) in which you pay for the downloads, thats the only leagal way that I know of.

yes alan is correct it is actually been named intellectual property theft here in the states and is considered a very serious crime
