Minimize and Maximize

Hello Alan:

Alan I hope you catch this one it's been a long time since I have talked you. When I am on the internet and want to open a web page the web page only opens partially on my screen it will not open to a full screen I have to click that maximize button to open the web page.

Operating system
Windows X P Pro Service pack 2

Try this:
Open Internet Explorer but dont maximize it.
Drag the corners of the window until it completely fills the screen or is at the size you want it to be.
Do not use the maximize button to enlarge the window.
Hold down the Ctrl key, and use the mouse to click on File and then Exit.
Do not use the "X" in the upper right corner to close the window.

Internet Explorer should now open in a full window.
If it still opens to a smaller size repeat the above but this time us the "Shift" key instead of the "Ctrl" key.

I thought I had written this as a 'HowTo' but cannot find it, I will add it to the 'HowTo's' forum.

Thank you for the information Alan. I did what you said and it worked just fine. When I turned off my PC and went back on at a later time I still had the same problem so I did what you said again and then turned off my PC and then went back online and I'm still having the same problem do you have any answers for this?

Then its quite possible that a couåple (or one) registry keys are corrupted.
Open regedit and delete these keys:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\window_placement

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\OldWorkAreas\OldWorkAreaRects

Delete ONLY these keys! then try again. I am sure that you know that editing the registry is dangerous so be careful.

If you are not familiar with regedit, post back I will write a more detailed explaination.

Ok, here's how you can edit registry values. Please make sure you do a backup fo the important stuff you have before messing out with the registry, because if it's corrupted it can stop Windows from functioning properly, or from booting again.

After that, go to Start / RUN / and type REGEDIT

On the left hand side you will see directories, all beginning with HKEY, with a '+' on their side. To open one of them simply click on the '+' (and '-' to close it back). Now the registry values you want to find are:

Quote:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\window_placement

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\OldWorkAreas\OldWorkAreaRects
HKCU stands for HKEY_CURRENT_USER ... so click on the '+' on it s side and you'll see a number of directories, then keep finding the next one (which is 'SOFTWARE', click on the '+' sign) ... and keep going down until you're at MAIN. Click on MAIN and on the RIGHT select window_placement and press DELETE. Do the same for the second one, except that you should click on OLDWORKAREAS, choose OldWorkAreaRects from the right and delete.

If you still have questions please ask

I did this but there was NO name called Main to open.

HKCU stands for HKEY_CURRENT_USER ... so click on the '+' on it s side and you'll see a number of directories, then keep finding the next one (which is 'SOFTWARE', click on the '+' sign) ... and keep going down until you're at MAIN. You tried to search for this:

Quote:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\window_placement
... but you couldn't find it ...

... but you should also search for this, and delete it:

Quote:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet \Explorer\Desktop\OldWorkAreas\OldWorkAreaRects
