Ctrl + X will cut an item

Ctrl + C will copy an item

Ctrl + V will paste an item.

You must of course highlight the item by holding down the left mouse button when the curser changes to an I bar and dragging to select the text.

An alternative would be to:
Left Click your mouse, keeping it held down and drag the mouse cursor over what you want to copy.
Right click the highlighted text, picture etc. and select 'Copy'

Now go to where ever you want to paste the data, Right Click and select Paste.

If you mean copy a screen or part of it, just say and we tell you how.

A good and precise point from Alan there, but should the mouse die altogether what do you do?

To control windows solely from the keyboard have a look here.

Note to Alan
I took this from MS mate and if the site has no equivalent then feel free to copy it mate under your own name and then delete this.
