Cannot install software

I keep getting this message when i try to install some software:

1647:unable to create InstallDriver instance. return code -2147312566

what can i do to get rid of this message and install the software,

What operating system have you? is there any software in particular or is it all? and are you sure the error code is not 1608?

I keep getting the same message when trying to install software. Doesn't matter what software.
I heard it meant I was missing stdole.tlb file. So I copies it from my windows XP disc and put it in my systems folder, but still can't load software.

Any Ideas?

If you are running XP, you might try copying over the stdole32.tlb. Here is info from the installshield KB.

I was having a very similar problem the other day. It turned out I needed to reinstall the windows installer.

One word of warning that took me forever to figure out, you have to disable any firewall or antivirus to do the install.
