DirectX

Hi there, I have a problem with the directx 9.0c installation. When I download its dxwebsetup it will be allright, but when it starts installing in the middle of the installation an error will occure, saying that directx has not downloaded a required file; and then Installation Failed. Can someone help me with this please?

Have you got .NET Framework installed? DirectX 9.0c will not install unless you have it.

Hmmm!! don't know. I don't think. because I don't use andy program with that name 'Framework', nothing in add/remove and nothing in start menu. I don't think I have that. If you can tell me how to check just to make sure I don't have it it will be better. If you think I don't have it, can you tell me from where can I download this .NET Framework please?

If you have looked for it in the Add/Remove applet and it isnt there, then you dont have it.
You can read about it here and download it here.

Download the setup file for DX 9.0c here. If you get an error message write it down exactly as it is or better still, take a screenshot. If there is an error and it asks you if you want it reported to Microsoft, click on yes, then details and write that down.

I installed it without any problems at all.

OK this is a screenshot. I know it's not that good but at least you can have an idea. And when I click on OK a directx window will appear stating that the installation failed.

Two things for you to try.

First Method.
Reboot your PC into Safe Mode and log on as Administrator.
Now try to install 9.0c.
Apparently you cannot install DirectX without Adminstrators rights!

Second Method.
This problem can occur if the Cryptographic Service is Disabled in services.msc or a file within %Systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 folder has become corrupt.

To correct this issue, first go Start / Run and enter services.msc
A list of Windows Services should now appear on your screen, scroll down the list until you find Cryptographic Services. Right click this and select properties. Now ensure that the startup type is set to automatic and click the start button in that window if the service status is stopped.

Tried the first method, but I got the same error as before. Then tried the second method, typed services.msc and so on... but it was already set to atutomatic and the service status is nof stopped :S

Tried all possible methods, but nothing. I still get the same error. I don't know why.

The strange thing about this problem Daniel is that there are many people on the net with the same problem but no-one has found a satisfactory fix for it.
I read someware that you can extract all of the files and paste them in, overwriting the older files but I wouldnt recommend that. If it goes wrong and you havn't created a system restore point, it could be fatal.

One last thing that I read was that somebody disabled their system restore, rebooted then installed 9.0c. If it were me, I would just wait for Microsoft to fix the problem.

As a footnote, if you wait for SP2, directx 9.0c is included in it.
