Smile Explorer Crashes, Slow Internet - You Will Never Guess!

Over the last day or so I noticed a remakable change in my PC,s performance. The net was running slow, explorer started to crash especially if I tried to delete a shortcut. My wife was moaning like a bear with a sore a**e!
So after a little bit of investigation, scans for viruses/spyware etc. I tracked it down to SPY SWEEPER. At this moment in time, I hav'nt found out why or how but after deleting it, the PC is back to its normal running speed with everything working fine.
I have had a lot of faith in Spy Sweeper and for me, it went that little step further than AdAware. Now until I find out why it was messing my system up, its staying in its box!

Has anybody experienced this sort of thing with other programs that supposingly are meant to keep your pc free from problems? If so post your tale here and enlighten us all.

Alan, did you update to SP2? Did this only happen after that?

No Rob, I am going to update tonight, that way I have the weekend to put it through its paces.
What I did with Spy Sweeper was upgrade to the latest version. At this moment in time I am blaming that for the stange behavior of my PC. After I install SP2 and test it, then I am going to re-install Spy Sweeper and see what happens.

Hmm, Rob... Windows SP2 downloads itself through Windows Updates, or else we have to download it manually? And which is the option you think we have to choose??

Unhappy

I cannot install SP2 from the American site, it conflicks with my language pack.
I guess I will just have to wait in turn like the rest of Sweden.

Smile

Ahh the sweet smell of success!

Re-installed Spy Sweeper and the problems started over again. Downloaded Spt Sweeper but just the same.
Did an online virus scan with Rav Antivirus and found the Win32.Small.gt trojan. As this trojan emerged back in June, I was suprised that my antivirus software (F-Secure) didnt pick it up. Removed it, tested the system then re-installed Spy Sweeper and all is well again.
As to why it effected Spy Sweeper the way it did, I have no idea.
