Red face Automated Archiving

Hi,
I have a few tasks which up until recently have been mostly automated, however owing to hardware failure and growing issues, only the first task is currently operating.

The tasks;
1. Consolidate specific data from numerous machines to a 'data pool'.
2. Archive the 'data pool' weekly to 5 archives (mon – fri), kept on site (NAS).
3. Manually archive the 'data pool' monthly to removable storage, kept off site.

I would be interested to know what the normal solution to these problems are, as what I have done is failing and has many weaknesses.

The problems;
1. The 'data pool' itself has no redundancy. Consolidation is done using scheduled batch files (xcopy) over network and is one way. Files can be duplicated in the pool (if directories are spelled wrongly at source). That said though it is working.
2. The NAS containing the 5 weekly archives broke, it had no redundancy.
3. The Manual archiving task got too big / expensive. Using Winrar the 'data pool' was compressed to CDR's and burned to about 30 disks.

All advice is much appreciated thanks.
