Dwight Silverman, the tech reviewer at the Houston Chronicle, has written about the impact that the Aero theme has on battery life and performance (under the provocative title “Vista, Aero, battery life . . . and Doom” — he’s referring to the game Doom3, BTW). It’s a good post and I’d like to take a minute to expand on what Dwight has written.

It was reported that Amazon was taking pre-orders for the boxed version of Vista with SP1 and listed its availability as Wednesday, March 19. So it descends upon us……………..

This is the OS that I think I will hold out for. XP is working fine for me at this time and will likely for a few more years. Anymore the Internet is all that I use on a PC. I have a few consoles for games with the family so do not end up playing many games on the PC anymore.

It certainly makes sense for Microsoft. As there current online advertising products are not very good. As for Yahoo, it does not look like they can compete with Google now, so they have to do something? So will there be a name change? Microsoft!? Microhoo!? Time will tell.

When Vista was released I bought a copy for one of my machines, and if you recall Rob, I thought it was quite something. One year on I’m not so sure! Ok, some of the features are good, but overall I think XP is much better. I have all the Vista eye candy I need on my XP machine, which out performs Vista with just half of the RAM and lower end hardware.
