The first beta version of an application is usually long on bugs, short on features and bears little resemblance to the eventual finished program. And so I expected most of my time with Internet Explorer 8 to be working around unexpected crashes and strange behaviour. But no: despite the warnings that the beta was just for developers, I found it ran smoothly and gave me no real problems.
For starters, the download is relatively small, at 14MB. It installed quickly and with no complications, then opened to display an interface that looked similar to Internet Explorer 7. The program ran well, occasionally a little on the slow side (entirely normal with betas), but with no crashes. Microsoft has been working on browser reliability.

Why would you want to slipstream (integrate) Sp1 with Vista?

If you ever have to re-install windows you will spend a long time downloading and installing all the updates so why install all the older files only to update them? This may take an hour or so to do but will save many hours later.

So just how difficult is it? The answer is its not! It is very easy to do.

What do you need to make a bootable slipstreamed DVD?

Your Vista DVD
Vista SP1 – download it from the MS site.
vLite – a little app to do all the hard work.
A blank DVD disk
A few gig of space on your hard drive.

Original sources reported a release date of March 18th, others were just incline to say mid-march. Of course as with XP SP3, Sweden is in the second wave and as I have not found or looked for with intensity RC versions in Swedish, I will just have to wait for the official release.

This is what ChannelWeb reported:

Much to the continued confusion and chagrin of users, Microsoft (NSDQ:MSFT) has again postponed the release of Windows Vista Service Pack One for some users, citing snafus with language packs that fail to appear on Windows Vista Ultimate. The release had been slated for mid-March.

“We will be releasing Windows Vista SP1 in two waves,” wrote Nick White, a Vista product manager, in a Microsoft blog posting on Monday. “The first wave will only provide Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Vista Ultimate PCs running the following five languages: English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish.” The second wave will follow shortly after, supporting all 36 languages, White said.

Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 7 is right on track for release in 2010. Concomitantly with the leaked details associated with Windows 7 Milestone 1 dropped by the Redmond company to select partners in January 2008, a potential timetable for the availability of the successor of Windows Vista was also made public. According to the leaked information on the next iteration of the Windows platform, having just reached M1, the final version of Windows 7 was to be wrapped up the end of 2009.

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 was released to the public on Wednesday, March 5, 2008.
The installation time seems somewhat excessive – about 20 minutes!
One of the first things you should know is if you plan on trying I.E.8 you cannot go back to I.E.7 it is replaced with version 8 so if you use something like FireFox you are OK but if you use I.E.7 forget it although there is a version 7 emulator.
For some strange reason after the install some of my links would not work properly. I am not the greatest fan of beta software but this is very disappointing.
